Draft article

Now its time to talk to our guest today, Xandra!

How often do you practise?
I practise for at least one hour a day though usually I spend up to three four hours practising.

Does practising everyday for so long get boring?
It can do. The trick is to focus on different parts each day that way only those hours are repetitive rather than the second and third day being a repeat of the first. I always take a break half way through as well so that I can do something different to keep me concentrating.

Have you ever found practising infuriating?
Oh yes, several times. Sometimes when something just doesn’t go right no matter what you try you usually become angry. I take time when this happens to step back and maybe talk to a few people to vent steam so that I can continue.

You mentioned talking, does your playing affect your social life?
Definitely. If I want to go out with friends I need to plan it around practicing, rehearsals and the other work I do. Sometimes I go two or three days without talking to friends because I’m so concentrated on practising.

How do you prepare for performances?
I don’t think about. I don’t look at anything to do with it. I don’t let myself talk about it until I’m getting ready to head out. Nerves are a thing everyone gets, I just tend to ignore them to help me get along.

Was clarinet your first instrument?

No I played violin from 7 until I was 10. I stopped taking lessons when I got a new teacher and we didn’t get on well. I’m sort of glad that happened, I wouldn’t be here today if it hadn’t. Starting the clarinet really fuelled my passion for music.

I am going to make a Classical music magazine called Virtuoso. It will have a target audience of females that will be musicians, music arrangers and/ or conductors between the ages of 30-40. This target audience will be interested in learning about different composers and orchestras along with talented soloists, groups and individuals. The magazine will use a colour palette that will focus on the colours cream, beige, grey, dark grey and light brown. The magazine will have a sophisticated and informative layout whilst looking appealing and retaining humour. It will also need to have some modern features to make it stand out from other magazines. My magazine will cost £2.99 which is affordable to the type of people buying the magazine.

Magazine Title

The title of my magazine will be 'Virtuoso'. I have chosen this as other magazines in my genre use terms specific to the genre and the word virtuoso is a word that comes from this genre. The word means a person that is highly skilled in music and would show that my magazine was showing advanced musicians and would include things that would appeal to advanced musicians.

My magazine style

My magazine style is going to be classical music. I really like this genre and there aren't many easily accessible magazines for it. Doing this genre will mean I will need to be sophisticated and and informative whilst also retaining good humour and making sure the page is interesting to look at. I want to go for a style similar to what the Classic fm magazine was as it was more visually appealing and interesting. I listen to a lot of classical music and will know the key terms and people needed for the language my audience will read. My font will be simple, bold but not generic. My colour scheme will focus on one or two particular colours that are more dull than bright but not completely dull.
